Skincare OEM/ODM: Choose Platform Adaptation or Custom Formula Development
Use a buyer-ready brief to decide whether an established platform can be adapted or a distinct custom formula route is needed, then keep formula, packaging, market inputs, and approvals connected as the project develops.
ODM versus custom OEM
Choose the development route that fits your brief.
Use “platform-led” as a practical operating description, not as an automatic statement about legal ownership, exclusivity, claims approval, or final market authorization.
Scroll horizontally to compare all decision columns.
| Decision factor | ODM / platform-led route | Custom OEM route |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | An established product platform or category direction. | A distinct product brief and formulation direction. |
| Best fit | A team seeking a practical starting point and controlled adaptation. | A team whose product problem, sensory target, ingredient logic, or market position requires a distinct development route. |
| Development focus | Sensory character, active story, fragrance preference, and packaging requirements. | Formula concept, prototype direction, packaging compatibility, quality planning, and evidence needs. |
| Brief needed before scoping | Product format, target market, brand direction, packaging needs, and desired adaptations. | Consumer problem, product format, sensory profile, ingredient direction, claim boundary, target market, and packaging constraints. |
| Commercial confirmation | Confirm selected platform scope, packaging, artwork, documentation, components, and payment conditions. | Confirm approved formula scope plus packaging, artwork, documentation, components, and payment conditions. |
| Important boundary | Platform-led does not mean every requested change is feasible. | Custom does not itself state formula exclusivity, ownership, test outcomes, or market approval; confirm those items contractually and project by project. |
Development and change control
Keep the approved brief as the decision baseline.
Submit formula, packaging, artwork, claim, market, quantity, or timing changes in writing. SEYE reviews their effect on development scope, samples, documentation, components, cost, and schedule; the project proceeds on the revised scope only after written approval.
Scroll horizontally to compare the stage, working output, and change-control gate.
| Stage | Buyer decision / SEYE working output | Change-control gate |
|---|---|---|
| 01Define the brief | Confirm the user, product format, intended market, claim boundary, ingredient direction, sensory target, quantity range, and pack constraints. | Save a dated brief version and named buyer approver. |
| 02Select route and scope | Decide platform adaptation or custom OEM; identify prototype, packaging, document, and quality workstreams. | Record scope assumptions before sample work or commercial planning. |
| 03Prototype and formula approval | Review formula direction against appearance, texture, use, packaging compatibility, and project requirements. | Formula-related changes trigger an impact review and a revised brief or sample path where needed. |
| 04Align packaging, artwork, and market inputs | Align the selected formula with components, artwork inputs, documentation, and destination-market context. | Packaging, claim, artwork, or market changes are logged before release. |
| 05Confirm production readiness | Verify formula approval, packaging confirmation, artwork sign-off, required market documentation, component availability, and agreed payment conditions. | Proceed only after the readiness gate is complete. |
| 06Plan production | Move an approved project into the production plan. | Assess any late change for scope, sample, document, component, cost, and timing implications before acceptance. |

Effective 2026-10-23 · Policy v2026.10.23.1
Within 1 business day after we receive a complete project inquiry.
Target: 5–7 business days after the approved development brief.
Scheduled after sample approval; shipping transit is separate and confirmed with the destination.
Project-specific after component sourcing, pack-compatibility review and artwork sign-off.
Target: 25–35 working days after the production-readiness gate is complete.
Prepare your RFQ
Bring the details that make a project brief easier to scope.
Share what is available. The checklist gives the development and commercial teams a practical starting point; it does not replace project-specific confirmation.
- 01Company, contact, decision-maker, and preferred contact method.
- 02Product category, format, target user, intended use, and positioning objective.
- 03Route preference: platform-led ODM or adaptation, or custom OEM; plus benchmarks where available.
- 04Desired sensory profile, ingredients or features to include or avoid, fragrance direction, and claim boundary.
- 05Intended markets, languages, responsible-party or importer context where relevant, and documentation questions.
- 06Packaging format, fill size, component preferences, artwork status, and compatibility constraints.
- 07Estimated initial quantity, forecast or reorder context, budget range, currency, and target launch window.
- 08Sampling request, internal evaluation plan, and named approver for formula, pack, and artwork changes.
Project boundaries
Confirm the conditions that shape a workable launch plan.
Clear boundaries protect the project brief. They help buyers distinguish a product direction from a confirmed formula, quote, market pathway, or production plan.
- Feasibility, MOQ, quote, sample route, and production timing depend on the formula, packaging, market documentation, component availability, and approved scope.
- Product claims, labels, and documentation require assessment for the intended product and destination market; this page is not legal or regulatory advice.
- A formula, packaging, artwork, claim, market, quantity, or timing change may require scope review, revised samples, document updates, component checks, and a revised quotation or schedule.
- Formula customization does not itself establish exclusivity, IP ownership, testing outcomes, or market authorization. Confirm these matters in the applicable project and commercial documents.

Buyer FAQs
Questions procurement teams ask before they brief a project.
What is the difference between SEYE's ODM and custom OEM routes?
An ODM or platform-led route starts from an established product direction and can focus on adaptations such as sensory character, active story, fragrance preference, and packaging requirements. A custom OEM route starts from a distinct brief when the formula needs to express a differentiated consumer problem, ingredient logic, product experience, or market position.
When does laboratory sample development start?
The current target is 5–7 business days after the approved development brief. The approved brief is the start condition, so revisions to the brief should be resolved before that development timing is applied.
When is a project ready for bulk production planning?
The production-readiness gate requires formula approval, packaging confirmation, artwork sign-off, required market documentation, component availability, and agreed payment conditions. Production timing starts only after these conditions are complete.
When can we expect a quote response?
SEYE's current quote-response target is within 1 business day after receiving a complete project inquiry. Sharing the product direction, quantity, target market, packaging context, and project requirements helps make the inquiry complete enough to scope.
